Designing a Mobile Version of Your Website
I’m a baseball fan. Specifically a San Francisco Giants fan. Yes, I know they are horrible this year, but that’s what makes me a real fan…I don’t care if they win or lose. One sentence in to this post and I’m already off topic.
MLB.com has a mobile website that, in my opinion, is one of the best and most useful mobile sites around. Today I’m going to dissect there mobile home page and tell you exactly why I think this site is so great. Continue reading »
Safari on Windows!
Its official! Apple has released a beta version of their web browser, Safari.
This is an exciting time for web designers married to their windows boxes, myself included. Safari is, in my opinion, the fastest rendering modern browser available. Not to mention the first of only a handful of browser to pass the Acid2 Browser Test.
Today is a good day!
Is There a Standard for Tracking Website Visits?
At work I’ve been asked numerous times “How man unique visits do we get?”. To which I reply, “It depends who you talk to.”
We run a handful of traffic software packages to help get a handle on all the different statistics incorporated with running a successful website. Google Analytics, Mint and a very simple page view counter I developed in house. Each package takes a different approach to computing unique visits: Continue reading »
New Look Same Crappy Content
I got a bug up my ass to change the layout. Nothing fancy, just a wordpress theme I found. I’m far too lazy / untalented to come up with something on my own.
Hopefully this will encourage me to actually write something of substance.
The New News
It’s nothing new to get your news online. Whether it’s local, national or international, newspapers have used the internet as an extension of their printed product. Over the last decade newspapers in general have seen a decline in the number of print subscriptions sold and are trying new features and services online to compensate for the decline in readership. WordPress as A CMS
Yes, I know this isn’t anything new, but I’m quickly becoming a big advocate of using wordpress as a CMS for client websites. Continue reading »
My Egg Got Cracked
I was lucky enough to be invited to the Crazyegg beta test. I believe it is an open beta now, but don’t quote me on that. Anyway, I’ve had nothing but trouble with this site since it’s launch. Login frequently doesn’t work, when loading a snapshot, as they call it, the ajax progress bar shows no progress.
For those of you that don’t know, Crazyegg is a website analytical service with an interesting twist. The focus of the service is to show where users are clicking on a specific page. This is interesting because it doesn’t matter if where they click takes them to a different domain or not (currently Google Analytics can’t track this), it logs every click, regardless.
I really hope they can fix these problems as the service they provide is worth the prices they are asking.
